ABOUT THOMAS "TEEJAY" JOEL
Thomas “Teejay” Joel was born in Dallas, Texas in 1964, the first-born son of German immigrants Herman and Elfriede Joel. He has been designing since his parents bought him his first Lego set, leaving him with an incredible drive to create and produce.
Teejay went to grammar school in Germany and graduated from Alta High School in Sandy, Utah in 1982. He studied Geology, Architecture, and German at the University of Utah, graduating in 1988 with a Major in Humanities, completing the undergraduate studies in Architecture. In 1989 he pursued a Masters in Architecture from the University of Maryland, but left in 1989 to pursue a career in restoration and renovation of older homes as a carpenter.
In 1990, he returned to Salt Lake City to continue his trade as a carpenter and foreman with Youngblood Home Improvements based in his home town Sandy, Utah.
Surviving a severely, geeky family obsessed with computers since the 1960’s, Teejay failed to involve himself in graphic and web design until the Macintosh computer evolved to where I felt at home in front of the screen in 1994.
Being involved in the music scene during those early years, he trained myself on the computer and its application use creating artwork to promote music, which soon led to servicing other industries during his free time.
In 1998, he focused on his new career as a Web and Graphic Designer and moved to Los Angeles, California, which was experiencing the boom of the dot.com industry. Shortly after arriving, he met Jeremy Kidd, a Venice, California, artist who needed a web site put together to promote his work. Their joint efforts forged a bond that brought them together as partners in the creation of Digidome Designs, LLC, a graphic and web design company. Together they practiced together as Senior Designers until 2001, servicing hundreds of clients from around the world.
In 2001, shortly after September 11, Teejay decided to part ways and form his own company, IAMTEEJAY, to serve individual and small business with their marketing needs in digital and print media production.
Today, Teejay lives in Sacramento, where he enjoys riding his classic Honda CB750F 4 Series motorcycle in the Sierras, writing, and playing music when he has a free moment.
