Stefhen Bryan
Written and performed by Jamaican author Stefhen F.D. Bryan. Directed and dramaturged by Jared Scheib.Doodu Boy is the harrowing, but hilarious autobiographical story of Stefhen Bryan's struggle across three continents to find unconditional love in the face of an absent father and overzealous mother. The story begins with his frightening childhood in a Jamaican ghetto on a church commune, where he falls into the neighborhood cesspool and earns his nickname: Doodu Boy. Learning the shocking truth of his origins, and a showdown with an NYPD armada as he attempts to connect with his father, he ultimately leaves the West to begin a rebirth in Japan. There, in the midst of a sexual rampage, he meets a girl who promises the beginnings of the deep connection that he's always wanted.Doodu Boy is a story that will resonate with many: A love story that begins in a place of horrific trauma, and a protagonist who must surmount daunting obstacles to emerge triumphant from the Caribbean to the U.S.A. to Japan and back.
