Add a Cookie Consent Banner to Your Website if You Haven’t Already

Over the past few years, we have been adding default cookie consent banners to sites as we build them. More recently, with much improved tools and content to comply with both GDPR and CCPA, we have been including it in the development package as part of the budget.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

First, the E.U. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) required our European and International clients doing business in Europe to implement tools to ensure the privacy of visitors to their websites. Let’s just say the commission swiftly enforced the regulations, and those with E.U.-based sites who didn’t comply faced immediate fines. 

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

Over the past few years, California has followed in the E.U.’s footsteps, with its own California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA); despite the enforcement being light, site owners are facing a new threat: site visitors who are looking for violations and following up with a lawsuit for not protecting their privacy under the act. 

Everyone is talking about it, and now we are, and with more concern.
